Spring 2020 Staff Alumni and Friends Newsletter
I want to assure you that spring has come to Canyon Camp! The early wildflowers are blooming, the trees are getting their leaves, migrating and resident birds are nesting and signing, and the smells and vistas you remember are all still there. In the midst of this crazy time of a health emergency there is solace in knowing that life continues as it always has in the natural world at Canyon Camp.
Unfortunately, the annual Kiwanis Work Weekend that brought so many into Canyon Camp to work in cheerful service and share in camaraderie had to be cancelled for May 2-3 this year (see the message from Lee and Dick below) - we all know why. We are hopeful this will be the only cancellation.
The content of this Spring Newsletter had to change as well given the current health emergency and ever changing situation - so please be sure to stay connected for the most up to date news about Canyon Camp and what is available for Scouts and visitors this summer though these links to up to date information:

Here are a couple of dates we would like you to put on your calendars for the future:
-
October 3, 2020 – Woodcutters Ball at Canyon Camp
-
July 24-25, 2021 – Canyon Camp Staff Reunion at Canyon Camp
We wish everyone connected to Canyon Camp good health. I encourage you to take a few minutes after reading this to contemplate the finest days you spent at Canyon Camp with good friends, Scouts or family as we all wait for the opportunity to gather there once again.
Cancellation Notice
Kiwanis Work Weekend – Canyon Camp
The 45th Annual Kiwanis Work Weekend - Canyon Camp, B.S.A. has been cancelled for the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd. The health and safety of our Kiwanis members, Scouting families, Scouts, volunteers, staff, friends of Canyon Camp, and their family members remain our number one priority in the Blackhawk Area Council.
In this spirit and given the unprecedented circumstances related to COVID-19, and by Illinois’s Governor Pritzker’s extended stay at home order until April 30, 2020 please note this cancellation.
Please know that the projects at camp will await our return and our camaraderie will be enjoyed by all when we meet again, hopefully very soon. When we are given the “green light” to return to camp there will be projects to complete and we will reach out for cheerful service and assistance to complete these tasks.
Additionally, please know that your volunteerism and support are always greatly appreciated. You are so very important in our success and we look forward to working with all of you soon.
Stay safe as we do our best to carry on with our mission of providing for the youth of our movement.
In good Scouting,
Lee Binkley and Dick Reynolds
