Dingus Honored at American Advertising Awards
Canyon Camp alumnus Erik Dingus has a passion for Canyon Camp. After camping many years on the banks of Coon Creek and playing an integral role in the relaunched NYLT program in the early 2010s, Erik found a way to share his passion for Camp with others. THOUSANDS of others!
On February 21, Erik won an award at the American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) in the student category of cinematography/film, video and sound. In addition to his time as a camper and NYLT staff member, he is an Eagle Scout and a very gifted cinematographer. He has made not one, but TWO amazing videos for Camp to help get more Scouts and Scouters to learn about the Spirit of Canyon Camp. The video he created last fall for Canyon Camp was featured at the event in front of more than 150 participants in Rockford, and he is moving on to the regional competition which includes Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Erik is currently a junior at Ball State University and is majoring in video production and emerging media.
His first video has a combined view total over 9,000 across Facebook postings and YouTube since 2016. In spring of 2019, the Canyon Camp promotions team reached out to Erik and asked if he would be interested in coming out to capture additional footage. He said YES without even thinking about it. He and his trustee assistant, his father Tim Dingus, spent hours with staff, Scouts, and all of the exciting areas throughout camp from shooting sports to the parade field. If you haven't seen, it yet, we highly recommend you watch his second video that has more than 4,000 views since September. Join us in congratulating Erik for receiving his first Addy! Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for Canyon Camp!
